Absent

Sat Apr 12, 2014, 8:49 AM
In case you wondered why I'm not on here any more it's because my computer is acting up. I still love DA and I hate that my groups suffer in my absence. I will be back as soon as I have a working computer.

Minimalistic Grey journal skin

Sun Mar 16, 2014, 3:51 AM

This is a all CSS no graphics skin I'm working on. It's not finished yet but I posted this simply so I can easily check how compatible it is with different browsers.

St. Patrick's CSS challenge

Tue Mar 4, 2014, 9:00 AM

:iconjournalcss: and :iconjournalskin:
are teaming up for a St. Patrick's Day CSS Challenge, our second monthly challenge of many more to come....

Introduction

Catch  a  Leprechaun, follow  the  rainbow  and  find  the  pot of gold,  go  green, because  St. Paddy's  is  the  theme!
Your task is to incorporate  the theme "St. Patrick's Day" in a beautiful, free, user-friendly new Journal skin or an equally beautiful new Journal design through the use of colour, typography, graphics, design or any other elements which you think relate to the theme in one way or another. You're free to interpret the theme in any way you want, but in the result the theme must be clear at first glance. Suggestions besides the obvious green, are shamrock/clover, leprechaun and his gold, colors of the irish flag.

This  contest  will  have  two  categories:  Even  if  you  can’t  code  CSS  you  can  still participate.

1: Complete CSS
A fully functional skin with design and code, preferably as Installable one.
2: Design Only
A skin design only.  You will be required to provide the unflattened psd file or high quality individual spliced images if your design should be chosen as winner. The design will be coded and made freely available for use.

The Rules

  • Need to be a member of either journalcss or JournalSkin
  • Entry must be new and created specifically for this contest and state this in the description with a link to this journal
  • Multiple entries are encouraged, but you can win only once though!
  • You must credit any stock or resources you use in your entry
  • Do not use any copyright proctected material!
  • Your entry must comply with deviantART's Submission Policy
  • Your entry must be properly submitted into the deviantART Related gallery
  • No copying of existing layouts/templates
  • No generated skins, entry must be hand-coded
  • Coded Skins should include a live preview (use sta.sh for this)
  • No collabs between artists!
  • Entry must be submitted into the combined Mardi Gras - St. Patrick Challenge folder of your group -  this is to ensure your entry is counted.

The Dates

for  the  St. Patrick's  Challenge

  • Entry has to be submitted on or after March 1, 2014
  • Deadline is March 27, 2014. Any entries submitted after this will not be considered.
  • Winners will be announced a few days later...

Mardi Gras Mini-Challenge

As already announced in our last journal, we're running two challenges this month and you have to do both in order to win the main prize.
Carnival is lurking around the corner, and here's a quick Mini-Challenge on the very specific theme of New Orleans
Mardi Gras.
Mardi Gras main colors are purple, green and gold and they each have a meaning:
Purple Represents Justice - Green Represents Faith - Gold Represents Power
Here is your color palette which you have to use for your skin or design.

The Rules

are the same for both challenges

The Dates

for  the   Mardi  Gras'  Challenge

  • Entry has to be submitted on or after Februray 24, 2014
  • Deadline is March 9, 2014. Any entries submitted after this will not be considered.
  • Winners will be announced together with the St. Patrick's Challenge Winner(s).

The Prizes

The coded skin winner will receive
The skin design winner will receive
In addition, the design gets coded by either poserfan or CherieNoir and made freely available for use.

There will be smaller prizes for second and third place.

We can't wait to see your creations!

Be creative!!

Any prize donations are gladly accepted - please leave a comment or note either poserfan or CherieNoir Any kind of promotion and spreading the word would be appreciated as well Heart

Sorry for the delay, RL intervened as usual. Plus we had a hard time to decide, but after some discussion, here we are....finally! No Design was submitted so theres only one Winner. Unfortunately we also had to disqualify  an entry, submitted to JournalSkin, as it doesn't mention that it was done for the challenge.  Now, without further ado -
here's your winner: Krissi001 Clap Clap

We also had trouble which skin to choose as both of her skins are coded very well; in the end we stick to the challenge's theme and since pink is commonly more associated with Valentine, we decided on this beautiful skin.
Valentine's Day skin by Krissi001

"Look alone at the heart on the top  - it's completely CSS made!! How awesome is that!! An instant favourite from the beginning. It also comes with a variety of coded tags, to spice it up even more."

"Creating graphics out of pure CSS is a example of excellent coding skills . Being something not seen very often it makes this skin very unique."

We also did decide on second and third place, only to again having a hard time as we had a tie. So, there's no third, but 2 second places. They would be as follows:

"An animated skin, which are very rare and need to be cherished. Comes with various options to customize it even more. Very charming in both versions: Bunny or Dino."

"The animation makes this pop! An already cute skin becomes even cuter with a little bit movement."

"A well-coded skin with styled headings and thumbs, a neat menu and totally adorable graphics!! Like the name stated: just Cute!!"

"The graphics. Look at the graphics! So Valentine's! Coding wise the custom menu adds an interesting detail for those fond of skins with extra features."

Originally there were no prizes for second and third, but I decided on throwing out some exclusive stock packs, and YBsilon-Stock joined me, so you both get one exclusive stock pack from each of us.

Congrats to Krissi001, Neko-Bear and Nesmaty for winning. Thank you to all participants - maybe next time you're the lucky one!!

We really hope to see you soon in our next challenges!!

PS: There's a new folder in the gallery, especially for the winning entries of all our future challenges.

I challenge myself

Wed Feb 12, 2014, 2:27 AM
I'm working on a interesting journal skin at the moment. Since I've had some computer problems at the moment I have no programs installed on my computer except for anti virus and firewall, plus the standard programs which comes with Windows. Rather than working with Paint (I normally use Photoshop) I decided to try to make a journal skin without graphics. Since I normally rely a lot on graphics when I web design it'll be an interesting challenge to use nothing but CSS. It will also be a chance for me to dive further into the features of CSS3.

Such a great example of how sometimes you can turn something bad (the problems with my computer) into something good (a personal CSS challenge).

Inactive for a little while

Tue Jan 28, 2014, 2:21 AM

Because of computer problems I may be a bit inactive for a couple of days. My computer is singing on it's last verse and keeps shutting down because of overheating. I'm buying a new one but until I decide what to get I'm stuck with the old one which at the moment is very unreliable. It was reformatted yesterday so hopefully it will work a bit better now. It still keeps shutting down but not as frequent as before the reformatting.

Anyway, just letting you know. Hopefully I'll be back sooner than later.

That's still art theft

Sun Jan 19, 2014, 8:38 AM

Something I don't allow when it comes to my resources is the creation of other resources using mine. A very good example of why I don't allow this is a deviation I came across today. Someone had made a PNG pack out of one of my brush sets. She had simply used my brushes on a transparent background, saved them as PNGS and then uploaded them to the resources and stock gallery here on DA. In the deviations description she stated that she had "made these" and therefore asked people to donate points to her.

No dear, you didn't make those. You used my brush set and saved the result as a PNG file but you didn't make anything here. Using stock "as is", does not count as making something.

Also, my stock rules clearly state that redistributing my stock as resources is forbidden so it's not just a bad choice of wording here.

Back journal skinning

Sat Jan 18, 2014, 1:29 PM
So I finally went over to the Gruze journal CSS. I'm like the last journal skinner on DA to go over to Gruze. I just haven't bothered before but here it is, my first Gruze CSS journal skin.

Expect more skins from me this spring. I want to become more creative with my skinning. Step outside of my comfort zone. Learn new things.

I've already stepped a bit outside of my comfort zone by making this minimalistic skin. Do you like it?

:iconjournalcss: and :iconjournalskin:
are teaming up for a Valentine CSS Challenge, the first of many challenges to come
in the future....

Why?
What prompted this challenge? The lack of activity in both groups and the skinning community in general. We want both groups to be  more active, to gain more publicity, to show we're still alive and not dead as others lately. We plan to do monthly challenges based on specific themes.

It's alive and it's back

Journal Entry: Wed Jan 1, 2014, 11:59 AM

After weeks of inactivity on DA I'm now back. Technically I've been back since yesterday when I spent a couple of hours taking care of my groups. The very end of the year/beginning of a new one seemed like good timing for my comeback.

One of the reasons behind my absence is a recent change in my life. My boyfriend has moved into the apartment next to mine. There's been a lot of renovations and shopping going on to get him settled in his new home.

I know this must sound like the weirdest living situation ever. Living in separate apartments, wall to wall. The thing is my boyfriend is allergic to my cats, who I've had years before we even met and could never give up. Because of this we can't live together. But now we almost do. Two apartments in the same house, on the same floor. The fact that we have separate homes and separate economies also means we both have our freedom to do whatever we want with our homes and money without consorting the other. For me it's also good to know that I can have alone time whenever I want to since it's something I need sometimes to reduce my stress levels.

So, that's what's new in my life. What have you been up to? Did you enjoy the holidays?

I'm alive + Christmas journal skins

Journal Entry: Tue Dec 17, 2013, 1:22 PM
I'm still alive. Just busy. I feel so bad about ignoring my groups here on DA but I haven't got the time for them at the moment. I will return. After Christmas maybe.

Until then, feel free to use my Christmas themed journal skins.

First there's this retro journal skin with five different headers to choose from.

My recent DA annoyances

Journal Entry: Mon Nov 18, 2013, 2:20 PM

1. People posting spam comments disguised as compliments/gifts/being nice. Just because you add a "sweetheart" and a <3 after the link to your deviation it doesn't mean I won't see your comment as the spam and desperate attempt to LURE people to look at your art it is. Feel reported biatch!

2. People submitting their entire galleries to my groups. More than 100 deviations at the same time? What are you doing?! It's a GROUP, not your second personal gallery!

3. People submitting things which clearly isn't horror to a horror group, things which clearly isn't gothic to a gothic group and things which clearly isn't victorian to a victorian group. If the group name gave you no hint what the group is about (how can it not?!)  the rules would have, had you read them that is.

4. People submitting journal entries with info about their commissions to my groups. My groups are ART GALLERIES, not bulletin boards for your ads!

Internship

Journal Entry: Sat Nov 9, 2013, 10:00 AM

I've got a "praktikplats", as we call it in Swedish. I think internship is a correct translation. I'll help out with the web shop of a small company once a week. Since my plan is to open my own web shop the unemployment agency helped me find this internship so I could get some first-hand experience in the field.

That is my long term plan. Opening my own web shop. I probably shouldn't even talk about this considering I've got such a long way to go before that can happen. If it happens. But that's my plan. The only plan I've got. The only future I see for myself. It's not the easiest path to follow but it's the only one which I feel fits me.

Now I just need to figure out what to sell and how to finance this project. Not to mention learn all about running a business. Like I said, I've got a long way to go. Every journey begins with an idea though. I have my idea. The race is on.
